Welcome to Screencaps, “America’s Best Daily Column,” as named by the readers. Screencaps, which publishes seven-days-a-week, is a mix of sports, pop culture, and emails from sane readers from around the world. This column isn’t for the coastal elites. Give us a week to steal your heart. Our track record is pretty good. Let’s have some fun.
“But who we rooting for this week?” Cowboys cheerleader Abby Summers was asked on her Instagram ahead of last night’s game. That would be because she’s dating Eagles defensive back Cooper DeJean.
Abby didn’t take the bait.
It turned into a very good and very bad night for Summers. On one hand, Abby’s employer is officially in the NFC East playoff chase with four home games in November against the Cardinals, 49ers, Titans and the Eagles again on Thanksgiving. On the other hand, DeJean was lit up in front of a national audience that witnessed Coop look pedestrian against CeeDee Lamb.

Why does this matter? Coop is eligible for a contract extension after this season.
“According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Cooper DeJean has allowed 4 Rec TD on 40 targets this season after allowing 1 Rec TD on 125 targets in the 2024 and 2025 seasons combined,” ESPN Insights reported Monday night.
Poor Abby. This might not end as magically as she’d hoped.

• Greg S. keeps his message short and sweet: Not even close.
• John H. emails: The Kylie singer was ok but no where near the voice and performance of Guyton in Game 1. Why does she get praise? Maybe white v black? I’m no DEI culture warrior. I’m white and 65 Republican, Conservative, etc etc. but that explains it better than the actual performance comparison.
So it might not be race. But why would Cantrell get more love from watchers than Guyton??
PS, Kylie Cantrell needs a ham sandwich. I’ll bet she has a diet, eating disorder…brought on by the zeal for fame. Unhealthy look for sure.
MIDTERMS UNLEASH WHAT MAY BE THE NASTIEST BARRAGE OF ATTACK ADS YET
• Greg Z. checks in: Coming out of a commercial break, I naturally had my remote on MUTE; as soon as I saw this young lady performing the National Anthem, I just had to hear her voice.
I was astounded that she could look like that and sound like she did! Her performance was excellent, but Whitney’s is still beyond reach!
AI IS SUPERCHARGING POLITICAL AD WARS. BUT VIRAL DOESN’T MEAN VICTORIOUS
Compared to some of the “Crap” performers of late of our beloved National Anthem, I would take her any day!
• Thomas S. hated it: We couldn’t stand it, she can’t sing for s–t.
• Gary in NC tells me: I proudly served and retired from the military with over 20 years of service and I’m sorry but I have a problems with the National Anthem being a performance. I don’t remember the last time I heard it sung at a sporting event where it was not a performance. Just sing as it was written and quit trying to make a name for yourself or to make an impression so that you can get a new/better singing contract. To me making it a performance is all about the singer making it more about them then the Anthem itsetf. Which is no different than taking a knee.
• Carlos liked it: My wife and I were highly impressed. Very genuine and talented. Best rendition we’ve heard in ages. LeBron should take note!!
• Legacy emailer Jake W. says: Not a fan of slow anthems. IMHO, it takes the power out of the song. And to compare it to Whitney? Nah, not even close. It was…fine.
• Gerard W. has been following Jr.’s junior high career: Congratulations on Jr’s PR and State Title! I assume Jr had a negative split if he was knocking of those runners at the end. I’m telling you the 800 is in his future. A competitive 4×8 or 4×4 makes sitting at a track meet for 4 hours at a time much more bearable….
I’m glad that you are starting to love XC. It’s such a great sport for parents. It was by far our favorite to watch our kids participate in.
• MP from Staunton, VA says: Congratulations to Screencaps Jr. for his jr. high cross country success. As a former cross country runner in high school (3-year letterman) I am very impressed with his progress. Hope he continues to improve when he gets to high school. Keep in mind that the courses will be longer in high school (anywhere from 2.6 to 3.1 miles aka 5000 meters).
MP paints a picture for how Jr.’s freshman year could go next fall:
I believe he can have times in the 17-18 minute range. He seems to have good instincts in terms of when to do a finishing kick, etc. I think all he needs to do is to put in the mileage and not let competing against older, more experienced runners get him down.
They’ve officially run out of things to insult each other with in Ohio’s governor’s race. I’m not a Vivek guy, but this attack ad showing the guy playing tennis caught my attention last night. The idea is simple here: Tennis is bad; it’s elitism.
The left praises minorities Serena and Venus Williams for playing tennis and being trailblazers, and yet here we are with tennis being bad for Vivek.
This election cycle can’t end fast enough. One week. We all have seven days to survive before they unleash Christmas commercials on us.
• Rick from Arizona emails: Our company recently decided that we need to be on camera for all meetings. A good policy, professional for sure. I’m in favor of that policy. But……a new thing given I’ve never had to do that in the past. My wife did not realize this.
So, there I was, on a meeting today, and she comes rolling past my work area to clean up all of the beer bottles and wine bottles my son and his buddies left behind during their football watching last weekend (bless her heart, she makes more $ than I do). I texted her a few minutes later and told her “in camera.”
She said something to the effect of “probably was great given all of the bottles I was carrying.” True that, good sarcasm, and in good fun. The key aspect of all of this is that she and I were the only ones home, and she has been known to walk around the house in such scenarios wearing not a lot. I texted her and told her that “at least you were wearing clothes.” Her response was dynamite: “Always 50-50.”
I sent the text exchange between my wife and I to my youngest and middle sons (22 and 27), and those dickheads did not even respond. That’s cold, now a’int it? I texted them later and told them BS. One finally responded. D–kheads. At those ages, with a funny scenario like that, gotta at least give a nod? The reader community can decide.
The numbers say more and more of you are avoiding grocery stores. Personally, as someone who works at a computer in a house all day long, I prefer to get out of the house and go walk around. The same for Mrs. Screencaps.
